Got questions?

We’ve got answers.

Can I configure both direct and channel messages?

Yes you can! Direct and channel messages work side by side and you can configure both at any time, together or separately. To get started simply write settings in chat with GreetBot.

Can I see a test greeting?

Totally! GreetBot can post a test channel message or send a test direct welcome message you have set up. It will be exactly the same greeting new joiners will get and it will be only visible to you.

Can I use non-Latin characters in my welcome message?

You can use any characters you can type into Slack to compose a welcome message. That includes characters with accents, like á, é, í, ó, and ú, as well as any other writing system such as Korean (한글) or Thai (อักษรไทย). You can even use emoji 😎

Can GreetBot post ephemeral messages?

Not yet, but we are working on an option to make channel messages ephemeral (“Only visible to you”). The effect will be that when new members join a particular channel GreetBot will post a welcome message only they will be able to see.

Can I attach a file to my welcome message?

GreetBot can’t handle files you upload through Slack. What you can do instead is include a link in your welcome message to an external file hosting service such as Dropbox or Google Drive.

Can GreetBot notify me directly when someone joins?

GreetBot cannot directly alert you when new team members join your workspace. You can, however, configure a welcome message in one of your default channels to include an @mention of your name. That way you will always get a notification whenever someone joins your workspace.

Will my data stay private and secure?

We take the privacy and security of your data very seriously. Our team has decades of experience building and securing enterprise software and has put a number of measures in place to protect our software from security defects and safeguard your data against information security breaches.

What is the benefit of having separate infrastructure?

As part of our Enterprise Plan we offer dedicated infrastructure that runs your organisation’s own instance of GreetBot, or if you prefer, self-hosting on your own servers. As such, this service offers an additional level of protection against potential information security breaches in cases when sensitive or proprietary information is shared within your workspace on Slack.
